Heave 2009

A 21 day sail around West and North Yorkshire from 12th July – 2nd August.

Pointed Arrow Theatre Company has created a club that anyone can join, The Yorkshire On-Land Boating Club. We invite you, the people of Yorkshire, to join us on our journey as we push our boat along the roads of Yorkshire.

HEAVE 2009, funded by Arts Council England, is our maiden voyage and main event for 2009. It is a 21 day sailing circuit that will begin at 7 Arts Centre in Leeds and then take us through Bradford, up and across the Yorkshire Dales and then down from North to West Yorkshire and back to Leeds. We will be inviting the people that we meet to write on our boat about what is important to them as we uncover the values of our region and meet the different people who make Yorkshire what it is.

We will travel deliberately slowly along roads, down canals and through fields on our journey. The club founders, Pointed Arrow, will be performing in the streets and anyone can be one of the club boat pushers for a few hours, a day, or more.
Here's some ways in which you can get involved:

Come along to the last pub quiz on the 24th June (7.30pm at Whitelocks off Briggate). It's your last chance to win that sought after boat!

Join us on our third Sunday training hike. We're meeting at the visitors centre of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at 2.30 on the 28th June (for a circular walk taking about 3 hours). Bring a boat!

Volunteer to be a steward for HEAVE 2009. We need people to drive the safety car, go ahead of us as scouts, and make sure that everyone we meet has a fun and safe time. If you have a day spare between the 12th July and 2nd August (9am - 4pm) and would like to help out then get in touch.

Join us on the road to help push the boat for a day. If you would like to participate in this way, please let us know so that we can make sure you have all the information you need.

Come along to the launching and naming ceremony for HEAVE 2009. It's on the 12th July outside 7 Arts in Chapel Allerton. It starts at 7pm and all are welcome. After the naming and launching we will be pushing the boat our first mile or so.
