Do you have an idea for a piece of performance? Are you bursting with creativity, just looking for an opportunity to showcase your talents?
As part of the emerge: leeds new work festival, 20-25 July 2009, a unique opportunity is on offer for an individual, organisation or group to win the chance to bring their bright idea to life as part of Light Night on Friday 9 October 2009 along with £400 towards staging costs.
Giving residents and visitors to Leeds a chance to view the City from a fresh perspective, Light Night is a one night, large scale, free public event encouraging everyone to come together and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of their City. Performance spaces include theatres, hospitals, museums, bars, streets, prison cells, casinos, places of worship, parks, squares and gardens.
As part of that celebration, emerge:leeds are looking for dynamic new creatives, with fresh ideas for an innovative, installation, performance or occurrence which will “light up” our City.
In order to Pitch & Win for this £400 Light Night commission, we are looking for work which is:
Durational; If possible - no beginning, middle, or end, so that people can stop in & stay for as short or as long as they want.
Site specific; responding to, & re-imaging the space that the performance is in.
Situational ; creating a moment in the city which will make the audience look at the city in a different way. Something magical, musical, sinister, surreal...
Venues and an extensive marketing & PR campaign will be provided for free. Most events get an audience of around 2,000 people during the course of the night & the overall audience for Light Night is around 15,000.
We want to hear your ideas; outline them on a sheet of A4 and send them by email to s.ansell@leeds.ac.uk by midnight on Monday 20 July 2009. The more challenging, diverse and imaginative your plans are the better. From the ideas sent in we will select up to twenty, you will then be invited to pitch your idea to our panel of experts and in front of a live audience at the Pitch & Win event on Thursday 23 July from 7pm at stage@leeds. You will need to put forward your idea in as imaginative and creative a way as possible and your pitch must last no more than four minutes. At the end of the evening the panel, having taken the audience reaction to each pitch into consideration, will announce the winner.
This commission offers the winner an exciting and unique opportunity to realise their idea and see it performed in front of a potentially vast audience as part of Light Night. With £400 towards staging costs, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
