Heave are Go!!
Sunday 12th of July was the Naming and Launching event for Heave 2009. After a lovely meal people gathered round our boat and, using an old naval ritual, threw wine over our boat, blessing it and naming her The Yorkshire Straif. The event, held at 7arts space in Chapel Allerton, was attended by over 60 people who were all invited to be the first to write their values on the boat. Pointed Arrow then launched the boat onto the road and pushed their first mile to Meanwood (where we they spent the evening).
The team are all feeling a little strange now that Heave has finally arrived, having been working on this project since April 2008, and after months and months of hard work getting everything ready to push this great big boat around, it is finally here. Even though the team are very tired (and could really just do with a holiday!) they are excited about what the journey has in store and looking forward to meeting lots of new people along the way.
So that’s it! The Heave journey has begun! The team will be posting updates on their blog, keeping us all updated as to how we they are all doing. Pointed Arrows' good friend Pete Reed will be managing most of the blog entries from now until the end of Heave and are very pleased that he is involved. There is, of course, lots of ways that you can get involved so check out the itinerary on The Yorkshire On-Land Boating Club website to find out more.
Come along and become part of HEAVE history!
Keep in touch with the journey on the website http://www.yorkshireonlandboatingclub.co.uk. The blog will be updated every couple of days while the team are away. Also, have a look at the itinerary, which is now showing most of the stopping places for the event.
