Leeds Christians Gather Pre-Alpha

alphaseptIn preparation for the Leeds City Wide Alpha Leeds Christians gathered at St George’s centre on Thursday night in an unprecedented meeting of people across denominations. Including, Baptists, Methodists, Salvation Army and Pentecostal Christians. Over 60 Christian groups are supporting the event at Leeds Town Hall on Friday October 2nd.

The Leeds Citywide Alpha launch event will see Christians and non Christians from across the city gather to hear speakers Jonathan Aitkin, Rosemary Conley (CBE), developer of the Alpha course, Nicky Gumbel and Big Brother 4 winner, Cameron Stout share their experiences of life and faith.

Organiser Chris Frost of Gateway church said ‘Last night was an extraordinary gathering of people from different backgrounds and varying expressions of the Christian faith. It was a powerful reminder that we’re all one family. I hope that people will see the Leeds Citywide Alpha Launch as an open invitation to them to explore the meaning of life and big questions.’

In lead up to the Leeds Citywide Alpha Launch shoppers and workers in Leeds city centre will be surveyed and asked if they think that God exists. An advertising campaign has already been circulating on buses in the city carrying the question ‘Does God Exists? Yes. No. Probably.’ The results of the survey will be released on Wednesday 30th September. Chris Frost said ‘We’re hoping to have some fun, get conversations going and find out Leeds’ ideas on spirituality.’
