Helen lives in Kippax and is an active member of Garforth Methodist Church, running its youth group. She has also been working with Faith in the City, based in central Leeds, visiting schools, spreading the Gospel and answering faith questions. She is married with two children.

Welcoming Helen’s appointment, Rev David Pickering, Minister of St Andrew’s, said:

“Helen will lead St Andrew’s ministry with children and young people. Children and young people play important parts in the life of St Andrew’s, taking part in many activities. Next Sunday, 14 November, young people will lead St Andrew’s Act of Remembrance.

“After a long period of prayerful reflection and preparation, we advertised and have been able to appoint Helen from a number of good candidates. Many, many people worked for this over many years, raising funds through our special appeal, carrying out the recruitment and in other ways. We thank God for them and for financial support from the Lady Hewley Trust and the United Reformed Church’s Leeds General Purposes Fund.

“Helen starts work on Tuesday 9 November. It will be a new era for St Andrew’s. We pray for God’s blessing on her work and on her and her family.”

Helen Wheelhouse said:

“I am excited to have been called to serve God in the children’s and youth ministry of St Andrew’s. My family are looking forward to becoming part of the life of St Andrew’s with me. I’ll be spending the next few weeks getting to know all the St Andrew’s children and young people and visiting local schools with our minister, David.”
