Breathe: December 10

Greeting from Breathe,

We’re nearly there now, almost 2011

-          A New Year Challenge: How low can you go? This year, why not push the boundaries of wrapping up indoors so that you can save on carbon emissions? For instance:

·         Put on an extra layer or two

·         Wear some long johns and thick socks

·         How about an indoor hat, scarf or Premiership footballer’s ‘snood’?

·         Don’t take visitors coats if they come round, give them an extra one

-          Be encouraged! The Lighter Later bill, which could benefit the environment and local communities by shifting our clocks forward, passed its second reading in the UK Parliament.

-          If you’re a parent, you could have a look at Bye Buy Childhood, the Mother’s Union report on commercialisation of childhood. Encouragingly, the Mother’s Union chief executive, Reg Bailey, has been asked to chair an independent review for the government. The review will report in May – let’s pray for a good hearing.

-          Something simple for 2011. Why not make your homepage www.commonprayer.net (an excellent daily prayer resource from The Simple Way)?

-          Get ready. January 2011 sees the release in the UK and the US of Breathe’s book, Consumer Detox. This is a massive opportunity for us, so watch this space...

Lord, help us live so foolishly for you that we draw onlookers and those who would deride us. And while they watch and mock, change all our hearts that we might learn to laugh at the foolishness this world calls normal and run away with the circus that is real life. Amen. (From commonprayer.net)

Have a blessed Christmas,
