The Volunteering and Community Office at Leeds University Union is excited to announce the introduction of our new Community Skills Project - changing the way that local volunteering groups think about gaining access to skilled student volunteers.
The scheme aims to bridge the gap between students and voluntary organisations by matching students with particular talents and skills with specific volunteering opportunities within charitable organisations and the local community, which any voluntary group can register in our database.
To participate in the scheme, all a group or organisation needs to do is to complete our simple forms. We then do the rest, taking away the cost and time of a group sourcing an equivalent volunteer, providing peace of mind that we are matching their needs to the talented and dedicated students in our database.
We want this project to be as broad in its reach as possible by welcoming registrations from all local groups and organisations. Our two overarching aims for the scheme are:
1. To ensure that students at the University of Leeds are making a positive impact in the community where they live by utilising the skills and knowledge that they develop whilst studying for their degrees.
2. To support and assist voluntary organisations and community groups that endeavour to improve the lives of others in Leeds by removing the barriers of time and cost when sourcing external volunteers.
With so many talented students looking for ways to make their community a better place, it is a natural step to utilise their skills and knowledge in practical and constructive ways for the benefit of the wider community. By introducing the Community Skills Project, we are providing the framework and consistent support necessary for this to be a successful scheme for many years to come.
