Your chance to have a say. The Localism Bill unveils two new community rights – the Right to Challenge and the Right to Buy – that promise to radically alter the power and responsibilities of local people and community groups. But how will this play out on the ground? While the Bill itself includes the basics of the rights, it is the secondary legislation that thrashes out the nitty gritty details of how local people and groups will actually take them up. The government is now running a consultation process that will allow community organisations and individuals to be able to have their say on how these new rights will operate. CDF has made it quicker and easier for you to participate in the consultation by designing two plain English surveys – one on each community right. We want to make sure that the voice of the voluntary and community sector organisations we work with are heard so that the new community rights take account of grassroots knowledge, experience and opinions. Big Sing. Hundreds of singers are due to converge on St George’s Square, Huddersfield (just outside Huddersfield Train Station) for the first ever Big Sing Yorkshire . Reviving a great two hundred year old Yorkshire tradition for coming together and singing in open spaces, Big Sing Yorkshire  celebrates all that is good about Yorkshire, and about the joy of singing. Big Sing Yorkshire  takes place on Saturday 21st May, starting at 11am. It is part of the celebrations for the 20th year of the Adult Learners Week campaign for adult learning, and will be publicised widely, including TV coverage through Look North. Conducted by Sally Egan, local choral animateur and vocal trainer, and open to absolutely anyone who wants to join in, the singers will join in a series of Yorkshire themed songs such as: 'On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at', ‘Jerusalem’ and a new Yorkshire song being commissioned from local poet and songwriter Ian MacMillan. Please sign up for Big Sing Yorkshire to help us gauge the numbers expected to arrive in Huddersfield, but it’s not essential to sign up in order to take part. Everyone will be welcome.
