Winter Update
As always in the Kidz Klub office, Christmas has been a really fun and exciting time of year, with many brilliant opportunities to share fun with the communities we work in, to extend help to the families we know who need it and to raise the profile of Kidz Klub Leeds in the city...
Hampers - This Christmastime over 130 hampers were donated to Kidz Klub by fantastic churches all around Leeds supporting our work. We were able to hand these out on all 32 of our visaiting rounds, blessing those families who have much less than us at Christmastime.
On one visiting round , a hamper was given to one family who had lots of children. The visitors explained that it was a christmas present from a local church who wanted to bless them. After being thanked many times by the parents of the family, the door was shut, but the visitors could hear the family 'whooping' inside, and one child shouting out "Father Christmas has come early"!!!
It is such a blessing to be able to be 'Father Christmas' to so many families across Leeds and to let them know that they are loved by the local churches and by God.
Visiting in the snow - Disaster struck just before Christmas, as many of you will remember, snow poured down from the heavens, bringing Leeds to a halt. Nothing could deter our hardy Kidz KLub visitors however, and donning many layers, scarves and wellington boots, visiting went on as normal. Visitors were trekking thorough 10 inches of snow to get to the families' houses, but it was all worth it for seeing the smiling faces of the children when we got there.
Christmas Specials - The snow didn't even manage to deter the children from attending Klub, with many children attending the last two klubs of the term where they heard the Christmas story, had the chance to wrap their team mates as Christmas presents and were invited to write on a heart something they would like to thank Jesus for this Christmastime and to pray with the team. The team were astounded by how many children wanted to thank Jesus for so many things, and for the deepening relationships with God that we have staryed to see.
LS11 Sing-a-long Choir - Out children's sing-a-long choir in LS11 has been going from strength to strength this year and the children were so excited to be asked to join in the LS11 Churches Toegther Concert that took place just before Christmas. The children performed an original version of "The Wise Men Jingle Bells" (© Kidz Klub Leeds 2010), which brought much joy both to the children and all the people at the carol service.
Christmas Parties - This Christmas we were also blessed at Kidz Klub, in being able to join in with local Community Parties in Harehills, Beeston, Cottingley and Middleton. Local children and families came to these parties hosted by Kidz Klub and the local churches where they enjoyed mountains of tasty food, great games and lots of fun to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.
Carol Singing - This December Kidz Klub took to the streets of Leeds bringing Christmas joy, Scooby-Doo, the Friendly Lion (and carols) to the busy Yule-tide shoppers. A big crowd of singers from all our different Kidz Klub teams and friends joined together for a couple of hours of singing in Leeds city centre where we were able to raise money for and awareness of Kidz Klub Leeds. The afternoon was such a success that there were requests for this to become an annual event!!
