Volunteer Story: Kathryn Kong, Plaistow Christian Fellowship (Time for 2012) Since arriving here in the UK, I’ve noticed that I use three words over & over again to describe my experience: humbled, grateful, and amazed. Almost daily I experience something that reminds me that God has His hand on my life and on this place, & that East London is exactly where I’m supposed to be. In the grand scheme of things, I do very small things here. I serve people tea, coffee & cake, write articles, laminate teaching aids, lead worship every once in a while, & yet my days are filled with joy. Through these small things, God is using me in ways that surprise me, to touch people’s lives, to break down walls of loneliness, & to bring healing and light in the darkness. What is so humbling though, is that this good I am bringing into these people’s lives is all God’s grace in my life: He gave me my past, my gifts & talents, my dreams & desires. I recognize I am on a journey, & I still have much to learn about using His gifts well & living fully as the person God created me to be. Even so, I can say to God with full conviction, “Thank you, for all that has been, and for all that is, and for all that is to come.”
