Please tell high-cost lenders to listen to their customers!
We've successfully persuaded some big lending companies to adopt fairer practices. But we need your help to make sure they ALL follow suit. Please take part in our simple e-action now!
It is wrong that the poorest pay the most to borrow money or to buy simple household appliances. Over the last year, Church Action on Poverty and our project in Stockton, Thrive, have been working closely with some of the big lending companies and the Office of Fair Trading. We're developing a new lending code and policies that would ensure these big companies behave more responsibly, and treat their low-income customers more fairly.
Several of the big companies are playing an active role in this process, but we need all the lenders to join in. BrightHouse - one of the biggest high-cost lenders - are dragging their feet and refusing to attend our next roundtable meeting, in London on 6 May.
We need your help to get them to the table. This whole process was started when campaigners like you persuaded the boss of another lender, Buy As You View, to meet his customers. He went on to become an unexpected ally. So you have the power to make a difference - to Close the Gap so that people in poverty are treated the same as everyone else!
Please visit our special web page now and take a couple of minutes to send an email to the boss of BrightHouse, asking why he won't meet with his customers and other lending companies.
Best wishes
