Latest Exciting opportunity with The Children's Society LEAP Programme -

The Children's Society LEAP Programme have been commissioned to deliver training to volunteers who would like to work with disabled young people living in Leeds. This is a really exciting and unique opportunity for volunteers to be trained to an excellent standard and hopefully go on to make a real difference in the life of a young person. Please see the attached flyer for more information and contact us to book today! You can also download the booking form clicking this link.

Are you a church setting or youth group who would like to expand your volunteer base? If so, please contact us! We can promote your volunteer opportunities to participants on the training and your setting could benefit from having volunteers who have been trained to an excellent standard in terms of understanding the needs of disabled young people, listening and empowering, effective communication and safeguarding!

Background to The Children's Society LEAP Programme -

The Children's Society wants to create a society where children and young people are valued, respected and happy.

We are committed to helping vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, including children in care and young runaways. We give a voice to disabled children, help young refugees to rebuild their lives and provide relief for young carers. Through our campaigns and research, we seek to influence policy and perceptions so that young people have a better chance in life.

The Children's Society LEAP programme is based in west Leeds and its citywide services, focusing on deprived areas of Leeds, benefit hundreds of children and professionals each year. LEAP stands for listening, empowerment, advocacy and participation.

Our team of dedicated professional staff, volunteers and young people work across Leeds to promote the inclusion and integration of disabled, asylum seeking and refugee children and young people into education and within the community. Thousands of children and young people benefit from our work in schools, the community and through disability training to the childcare workforce.

Our awareness raising, participation, diversity, and inclusion work means that we, with partners, can help children to overcome barriers, empowering them to reach their full potential.

LEAP aims to identify ways of meeting the needs of children by engaging with them and listening to them. Children’s participation is fundamental to everything we do. We listen to what children and young people need and involve them as partners in our work. This is evident in the success of LEAP Juniors who have developed training DVDs about their experiences of being new to the country.
