National Blood Week This Week

The NHS needs 7,000 voluntary donations of blood daily and currently only 0.8% of blood donated comes from black African and Caribbean individuals.
During National Blood Week (13th – 19th June), the NHS Blood and Transplant & Premier Christian Media urge you to step forward and 'make a date to donate' blood in the coming weeks.
With specific blood groups, like U negative, only found amongst black people, it is crucial that more people from this ethnic group donate blood.
Football TV pundit, Ian Wright, is supporting the campaign and urging more black African and Caribbean to donate. He says:
"Blood is needed every three seconds to save or improve lives yet only one percent of blood donors are black. Conditions like Sickle cell Anaemia, which require regular blood transfusions, are also more common among black people, so I urge the community to do something amazing today by joining the blood donor register."
The NHS has approached Premier Christian Radio and number of other niche media outlets for our help. They recognise our reach of a caring, community focussed audience, many of whom are from the African and Caribbean Diaspora in the UK. They are simply asking if we would make the seriousness of this issue known to our listeners and ask them to consider donating blood. You might consider doing this yourself, whether or not you are from the African-Caribbean community, or know of people in your family or church who might be encouraged to donate too. We would encourage you to pass this email on if that is the case.
96% of us rely on the other 4% to give blood. Please don't leave it to someone else.
