David’s 3 Month Sabbatical

“A life that is stretched by travel and new experiences can never return to its old dimensions.”

How do you cram three months of travel and experiences into a paragraph?

Many of this years TFG volunteers who will be leave soon will need to work out how they condense 10 months of travel and experiences into manageable chunks for friends and family back home. It is impossible to communicate all that you have been through as words and even picture can not adequately tell the story. But you must try and share with others what you have been through. See below for more...

"Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire." St Catherine of Siena.

Thank you so much to all the volunteers for everything you have given this year. We hope you have had a wonderful and formative year. All the best for the future, the TFG team.

My wife and I travelled to Thailand and New Zealand and spent 8 weeks away from the UK. We could tell you about the beauty of creation. We could talk about the work some Christians are doing in Pattaya, Thailand to support those living in the slums and their outreach work with the orphans of the sex trade.  I could tell you about the football match I played in with boys from the slums, we could not speak each others language but we communicated through the game we played together. We could share our experiences and our encounters with the wild life. We could tell of the awe inspiring beauty of New Zealand. We could share with you the conversations we had with people who lived through the Christchurch earthquake. The Christian in Christchurch are having to ask what do we do now most of our Church buildings have been destroyed in the earthquake? Do we rebuild or do Church differently? But it would not really tell you much about how we have been changed by the opportunity to travel and meet new people. When we returned from our travels I spent sometime back at theological college taking part in a Leadership Training course and I also attended a New Wine Leaders Conference. Both these experiences were inspiring and helpful. I had time to read a number of books and reflected on life generally. God used the time to refresh and renew me in a way that I have not experience for a long time. I can honestly say that as a result of my sabbatical I cannot return to my old dimensions.
