Dear friends,
This newsletter is mostly about RealityBites – but topped and tailed with details of other events.
1. Postgrads’ garden party on 17 July
2. Creation Regained, Sat 13 Aug
3. Summaries from The Sexes and the Kingdom
4. RealityBites, far and near
1. If you’re a postgraduate student, academic, or otherwise interested in university life, you’re invited to a garden party here at Outwood House (newly renovated!) on Sunday 17 July. R.S.V.P. if you can come (and feel free to bring partners or friends).
2. Creation Regained: On the morning of Sat 13 August, LifeMatters presents two talks by visiting professors from the U.S.. Al Wolters, author of Creation Regained, will talk about how we should read 2 Peter 3: 10–13, and Harry Vandyke will look at the history of Reformational Christian thinking under the dramatic title, “Slaying Goliath: wrestling worldly philosophy to the ground” ! Booking is now open.
3. Brief summaries of Mary Stewart van Leeuwen’s talks at our Summer Lectures are available on the LifeMatters recent events page.
4. RealityBites is reaching new audiences – both locally and overseas.
In May, Mark Roques was invited to speak at the ‘Unbelievable’ apologetics conference organised by Premier Christian Radio in London. Mark delivered two lectures entitled – "Is Jesus the only way?" and "What about suffering?" Audiences were quite large and feedback has been very positive. Closer to home, Mark presented a new lecture entitled “Five Inspiring Stories from the Third World” to a youth event in Otley where both Christian and non-Christian young people were present. Again the feedback was very encouraging.
On 6 July Mark will be speaking at a school conference in Newcastle. Three hundred sixth-formers from three different schools will be challenged about “Celebrity Culture and the Money God.”
The very next day, Mark will be travelling to Darwin in Australia to speak in an international conference entitled Educating for Tough Times, where more than 1000 people are expected to gather. Mark’s main presentation is entitled “James Bond, Rat Worship and Postmodernism: Subversive Questions for Christian Educators”. He’ll also be presenting an academic paper on storytelling in pedagogy, and is to be interviewed for Australian radio. Please pray for Mark as he represents WYSOCS down under.

I wish you a good summer and I hope to see you soon.
