URBAN SAINTS NORTH EAST
Helping children and young people live lives of Faith, Hope and Love

July 2011
Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.Psalm 116:7

Happy holidays! I'm not sure whether summer is a time to relax for you, as we all manage to pack the six weeks with so many holidays, clubs and events, but my prayer is that you will find rest over the break and that God will be your inspiration as you look to the year ahead.

On the subject of summer, have you seen Matt Summerfield's latest monthly message? It's called 'Go Away' and is all about the value and importance of the residential experience in the lives of young people.

We've already had our flagship residential of SPREE North in Leeds, which was absolutely fabulous. You can find out about that in this email. We are also looking forward to being at Soul Survivor North (come to the Urban Saints stand and say hello!), and at Harvest, where we will be running the prayer lounge, as well as selling Urban Saints hoodies in the Market Place!

There have been two new groups that have signed up to Energize in the North East during the past month or so. They are Cleethorpes Kings and Bradford Wibsey. It's great to welcome you to Urban Saints! You can find out where the other Urban Saints groups local to you are here.

We now have sixty groups using Energize across the North East of England. Would you like to be number 61? Summer is an ideal time to look at different resources and explore the possibilities that being an Energize group might bring to your minsitry. Energize subscription also gives you full access to MIMIC, our new generational discipleship resource. What's more, we offer Energize on a three-month FREE trial. Interested? We'd love to serve and support God's work in your community.

It's also great to welcome all of those people I have met for the first time recently at SPREE North and Totally Wired.

With love and thanksgiving

Richard Townend - Regional Director

Regional Training Conference:
"Walking the Talk"
On Saturday 10th September, Urban Saints North East are hosting our annual training conference in York. The theme is 'Walking the Talk' and we'll be focusing on discipleship, with some basic training in MIMIC, our new online discipleship tool. It's quite early in the term, but this will give you the chance to establish MIMIC in your programmes for the entire year.
Sharon Prior, Nick Harding and Dan Shepherd are our special guests on the day, and the cost will be £20 which includes lunch and refreshments, but Energize groups are entitled to three FREE places. Click here for further information.

SPREE North: What a weekend!

Four hundred children, young people and leaders from dozens of groups across the North of England enjoyed the third SPREE North event on the 8th to 10th July. Many young people opened their hearts to God with a hundred of them making commitments. After a wet start, the sun shined throughout Saturday and Sunday, and although it was hard work, we are already excited about SPREE 2012! Were you a leader at SPREE? If so, we'd like to know your thoughts to help our planning for future years. You can complete our Leaders Survey here

Youthwork Summit, Manchester, Saturday 22nd October 2011
Urban Saints North East are pleased to be supporting the Youthwork Summit in Manchester in October. But what is it, and why come? Here is what the organisers say:
Our dream is that, in a single day, we go on a journey together that has a profound impact on all of us. When you come to the Summit, you aren’t just a spectator, you become part of what’s happening. The interaction between us all is just as important as the input from speakers and the 2011 programme will reflect our commitment to do just that. So yes… we know there are plenty of worthwhile things you can do with your Saturdays. And we applaud that. Weekends should be full of things like family and friends, football and food. But this one Saturday in the year, we’re inviting you to do something different. To invest a day in your calling as a youth worker. Join us.

Three of the Best

Get your buckets and spades out...this month, just for the summer we're looking at...BEACHES IN THE NORTH EAST

1.
Cleethorpes is a real bucket-and-spade resort and still flying a blue flag. What's more, it's home to one of our newest Energize groups! Drop the grandparents off at the Victorian gardens and waterfall, while you hop on the Lollipop Express for a steam journey along the Victorian promenade..

2. Bamburgh, Northumberland Truly amazing scenery, with giant dunes seeming to disappear forever into the distance and Bamburgh Castle sitting proudly on a hillock. The sands are honey-hued and it’s long been a tradition for kids to try to build replicas of the castle out of the sand. There’s more than a mile of flat sand when the tide is out, and the water is good for paddling, although there are no lifeguards..

3. Saltburn-by-the-Sea
The elegant Victorian town is a gem with a wide, sandy beach and an immense headland jutting out into the North Sea. It boasts the world’s oldest water-powered cliff lift as well as great waves for surfers. A friendly welcome also awaits from our group based at Emmanuel Church!
