Welcoming the world to Leeds

This autumn the world comes to Leeds as thousands of International Students arrive to study at the universities here.  If you are interested in sharing God’s love with the world, then do consider this amazing opportunity: students come from over 130 countries, (including many where it’s impossible to enter as a ‘missionary’) wanting to meet local people and practice their English.  Many want to find out about the Christian faith as they see Britain as a Christian country, or arrive as Christians keen to bless & enrich the local church.  Many return home to influential jobs, able to help shape the future of their country.  Wouldn’t it be great if more countries were being shaped by people who knew God’s transforming love and wanted to share it with others? 

Friends International Leeds helps churches to share God’s love with International students.  We help churches to effectively welcome, reach & disciple International students.  We do this through organising events like Global Café & Introduction to Jesus Christ & the Bible Course where Christians can meet International Students.  We also offer cross cultural training to help churches know how to build friendships & communicate well with people of other cultures.  We give support & mentoring to those leading international ministry in churches as we work in partnership with local churches helping them build welcoming cross cultural communities. 

We have seen God change many International students lives whilst they are here, like one Chinese student who said, “Before, the sense of emptiness and loneliness and uncertainty about the future attacked me but now I have no fear as I know in my heart that Christ is a good shepherd and he will be with me”
