Norwich vicar talks about scars of childhood

A workshop for men at a Norwich church on 22 September will address the effects that bullying and abuse in childhood can have in later life.

Many people have scars left by damaging experiences from childhood. Bullying, abuse and other traumas cause immediate pain and difficulty to us as children. lordoftheflies

Nicholas Vesey, vicar of St Luke's Church in Norwich says that those memories often stay with us and can form into scars that affect the way that we operate in our lives today.

"The decisions that we make about life, relationships, and the very essence of our reality, are often coloured by those childhood experiences."

In this workshop, Nicholas will be sharing some of his own scars, and the effect that they have had on his life, and then giving an opportunity for people to reflect on their own lives.

The emphasis will be on creating a safe and supportive environment with no compulsion to share, but with the opportunity to reflect.

There will also be a handout at the end of the evening to signpost places to go to access further help.

The event is free of charge. No need to book. Just turn up.

Soul Brothers

This event is being run by Soul Brothers, a programme for men in and around the Norwich area. ‘Soul Brothers’ is a group formed out of the experience of those learning from the American Franciscan Richard Rohr’s teaching on the role of men within a spiritual context.

Men are often characterised as shying away from expressing emotions, or talking about feelings. When this happens there is often a negative impact on their relationships and health. Soul Brothers aims to facilitate emotional and spiritual growth in men, leading to more fulfilled lives and emotionally mature relationships.

Everyone is welcome, and all views are respected within a context of mutual growth and encouragement.
