Exciting new business link for two Leeds charities
With funding tight and demand for its services running at record levels, the Leeds and Moortown Furniture Store, a registered charity that was formed Moortown Baptist Church in 1986, has recently unveiled details of an exciting new project that sees it working alongside one of Leeds’ most respected charities.
In August St George’s Crypt opened its second High Street charity shop, and even in that short space of time the shop, which occupies a former Co-op supermarket on Armley Town Street, has proved very popular. However, in addition to stocking the usual mix of charity store items, shop bosses have recently asked L&MFS if it can supply them with second hand furniture.
Commenting on the venture John Gamson, the Store’s General Manager, says: “For more than twenty five years L&MFS has been responding to the needs of socially and economically disadvantaged people. In the vast majority of cases that means providing either individuals or families with some of the most basis items of household furniture. However, quite often some of the furniture that is donated to the Store, although still perfectly useful, just isn’t suitable for our clients. It’s these larger, quirkier or more ornate items that we will be sending to Armley.”
“The great thing about working alongside St Georges”, adds John, “is that as every penny we raise from the sale of donated furniture goes directly towards running L&MFS it means that we have not only found a new and much needed funding stream, we have also discovered a way of supporting one of Leeds’ leading charities.”
