Prayer Relay Following the Olympic Torch!

torchA 70 day prayer relay is taking place as part of the 70 day cascade of praise and prayer that follows through every major town and city that the Olympic Torch has an overnight or morning stop/start through all of the British Isles. This is a result of a nudge by the Lord given to one of the World Prayer Centre Birmingham team back in 2009 that the Lord wanted a national prayer response to the Olympic torch Relay and together with the World Prayer Centre and More than Gold it is happening.

What this means is that wherever the Torch stops, people from the previous place are travelling over to meet with the Church in the next town, to pray for them and in particular for their town.

It started at Lands End on May 18th when the prayer batons were commissioned and prayed for by the Bishop of Truro and Methodist church leaders. Prayers were inserted in the prayer baton and it was taken via Saltash into Plymouth where there was a time of prayer on the Tamar Bridge and in Freedom Fields Park . The next day leaders from Plymouth travelled to Exeter to pass over the prayer baton and pray for Exeter and this has taken place each day.
