Foodbank Opportunities in Leeds
Foodbank is a national initiative run by The Trussell Trust. Food is donated by schools, churches, businesses and individuals or collected at ‘Supermarket Collections’. Food is sorted and stored by volunteers who check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need.
Frontline care professionals identify people in need and issue them with a Foodbank voucher. Clients receive food. They bring their voucher to a Foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a cup of tea or free hot meal and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem
Churches and Christian groups from across the city are already engaging with taking this forward and it is looking like it will be possible to launch two foodbanks in Leeds in the autumn this year.
