...at 6 Church Street, Ilkley LS29 9DS. It’s a house of prayer and worship and creative resourcing centre with a particular emphasis on poverty and justice issues. And its unique space – which opened on 24 September – is carpeted with maps, decorated with images of nature and churches from across the denominations, and lit by a cross .
The Sanctuary is a
non-denominational Christian project run by volunteers from different churches. Its core team
writes, records and gives away songs and other prayer resources on themes of justice, poverty and intercession to churches locally and nationally through
www.thesanctuarycentre.org in response to Jesus’ call in
Mark 12:28-31.
Everything created or recorded there comes out of
the Sanctuary’s daily times of prayer and worship, which deliberately seek to respond to the headlines and current affairs. You are very welcome to join any of our times of prayer and worship. Our standard rhythm runs
Monday to Friday at 9am-10am, 1:00-1:15pm and 5:30-5:45pm. You can find out more about them by reading the information displayed in the centre’s window or by visiting
www.thesanctuarycentre.org/dailyrhythm.
Workshops and creative events are also run at the Sanctuary – upcoming events are displayed at the centre and advertised at
www.thesanctuarycentre.org/events.
And
individuals and Christian groups also drop in to use this unique space, or book it for related activities. You can find out more about how to do this by visiting
www.thesanctuarycentre.org/usingthespace.
When not booked,
the Sanctuary opens its doors for people to drop-in to pray, have a cup of tea or a chat. Drop-in times for the next couple of weeks are indicated on the schedule displayed in the centre’s window or at
www.thesanctuarycentre.org/houseofprayerandworship.
The Sanctuary is
not open or available for bookings on Sundays (when All Saints’ Church use the space). It is a registered charity (no 1148820) which works with and for many different churches locally and nationally. All of its resources and services are given freely – its core team volunteering their time and skills, and supporting themselves through other means.
